Around Khanom
Khanom is a working town on a long bay, not a resort strip. Most of what you need is within ten minutes on a scooter, and the rest is worth the drive.
Practical things
Getting here
Nakhon Si Thammarat airport is about an hour and a half by car; Surat Thani is about the same, with more flights. For Samui, drive to Don Sak (30–40 minutes) and take the car ferry.
Getting around
Scooters are the standard local transport, and we can help arrange one for a few days or your whole stay. Taxis exist but want booking in advance, particularly in the evening.
Money and shops
There is a small shop a short walk along the road. Khanom town, about six kilometres away, has ATMs, a 7-Eleven and a morning market. Larger retail is south in Sichon.
On foot from the building
Dinner is a walk, not a drive
The building sits directly on the beach, and the sand is the road. Turn left, turn right, or cross the front: three different evenings, none of them further than a few minutes on foot.
Left along the beach
CC Bar, then Phuphat
Turn left on the sand and CC Bar is about ninety metres along, serving drinks and food into the evening. Two hundred metres past it, Phuphat does good Thai food with your feet practically in the sand.
2 min walk
Straight in front
Frankies
Directly across the beach road from the building: coffee, breakfast and good sandwiches. Closed on Tuesdays. Most mornings here start there.
Across the road
Right along the beach
A short walk south
Walk right and the bay keeps going, with a neighbouring hotel restaurant a few minutes south if you want a longer dinner. Otherwise it is the same quiet sand.
Short walk
What is nearby
Worth the scooter
Distances are from the building. Everything here is a straightforward ride on a small bike.

Le Petit Saint Tropez
French and pizza, a short ride south on the beach road. One of the reasons to have wheels.

A short trail to pools you can swim in, best in the days after rain.

Khao Wang Thong cave
A lit limestone cavern up in the hills, easiest to reach in the dry season.

Pink dolphin boats
Boats leave from Laem Prathap, north of town, looking for the bay dolphins. Mornings are best. We do not book these.
When you come
The season changes the list
The waterfall runs hard after rain and thins out in the dry months. The dolphins are easier to find on calm mornings. The market sells what came in that day. None of it is a reason to pick different dates. It is a reason to ask us what will be good while you are here.
